iriver iFP999 1GB Portable Music Player
This high function, pager sized portable music player stores music on solid state memory circuits rather than on a hard disk drive. This gives it the advantages of smaller size & longer playback from a single charge. However it does mean that its storage capacity (up to 1GB) is much less than hard drive based units (up to 60GB).

Extremely small (64 x 51 x 20 mm) and light (62g including battery)
Colour LCD display screen
Up to 40 hours of playback with built-in Li-ion rechargeable battery thanks to the absence of moving parts
Supports a wide range of file formats including MP3, WMA, ASF, OGG, BMP, TXT
Built-in MP3 encoder
Built-in FM radio
Can record directly into MP3 format from built-in microphone, built-in FM radio and from Line in socket
Connects to computer via USB 2.0 port for High-Speed data transfer
Supports Windows and MAC OS

Cons
Storage cant compare to hard disk based devices
Supplied case and armband holster are not stylish

Star Rating: 8 Stars A good choice if you want very small, if 1GB is enough storage for you and youll use the additional features. Otherwise the 4GB Apple iPod Mini might be a better bet.

This high function, pager sized portable music player stores music on a hard disk drive rather than on solid state memory circuits. This gives it the advantages of much greater storage capacity. However it does mean that the device is larger, heavier and has a shorter playback time (up to 16 hours) from each charge.

Substantial 40GB storage capacity can hold up to 1,200 hours of music
Built-in 2 inch colour screen
Can store and display still images
Supports a wide range of file formats including MP3, WMA, ASF, OGG, BMP, TXT
Built-in MP3 encoder
Built-in FM radio
Can record directly into MP3 format from built-in microphone, built-in FM radio and from Line in socket
Connects to computer via USB 2.0 port for High-Speed data transfer
Can connect directly via USB 1.1 to certain digital cameras to transfer and display photos
Supports Windows and MAC OS

Cons
Not quite as stylish as an iPod
Larger (103 x 62.1 x 25 mm) and heavier (203g) than solid state devices or the iPod Mini

Star Rating: 8.5 Stars An excellent device which outperforms the Apple iPod in most respects. However the iPod is still a tad more stylish.
